Last-Tear Poa, a prominent figure in college basketball, endured a frightening incident during a game on Saturday night. The Louisiana State University guard, aged 22, collapsed on the court during a match against the University of Mississippi at the Southeastern Conference Tournament, sustaining a head injury in the fall.
Reports indicate that Poa fell during the fourth quarter of the game and initially attempted to walk off the court with assistance. However, her condition worsened, and she eventually lay flat on the floor, necessitating her removal from the court on a stretcher by paramedics.
In a press conference following the incident, LSU coach Kim Mulkey provided updates on Poa’s condition. Despite being diagnosed with a concussion, initial scans showed no further significant injuries. Mulkey expressed relief at the clean scan results but noted Poa’s subdued responsiveness following the fall.
The injury occurred when Poa collided with Ole Miss forward Madison Scott while attempting to defend. The impact caused Poa to fall to the floor, clutching her head in distress.
Mulkey, emphasizing the seriousness of the incident, remarked on the unexpectedly high level of contact in what is typically considered a non-contact sport. She praised Poa’s resilience and the supportive atmosphere among her teammates during the ordeal.
As Poa continues her recovery, LSU announced that she would not participate in the Southeastern Conference Tournament championship game. While released from the hospital overnight, she will remain nearby and support her team from a hotel.
