FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — TCU women’s basketball has canceled two upcoming games against ranked opponents, No. 7 Kansas State and No. 24 Iowa State, as the team faces a shortage of available players due to injuries. The announcement was made by the Big 12 conference.
The Horned Frogs, with a record of 14-4 (1-4 Big 12), cited injuries within the program and prioritized the health and safety of their student-athletes as reasons for the cancellations. The team, dealing with multiple injuries, decided to forgo the scheduled matchups.
In response to the challenges, the women’s basketball program at TCU announced open tryouts on Thursday and Friday, welcoming women interested in joining the team for the remainder of the season.

Point guard Jaden Owens suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in her right knee during the game against Houston on Saturday, prompting her to miss the rest of the season. With injuries affecting the team’s roster, TCU faced difficulties in fielding a complete squad.
According to conference rules, a school unable to field a team forfeits the contest unless extraordinary circumstances exist. Consequently, Kansas State and Iowa State will be credited with wins in the Big 12 standings, and TCU will incur two losses. However, overall records will not be impacted, following NCAA policy.
TCU’s next scheduled game is set for January 23 at home against UCF. The team aims to regroup and recover from the setbacks as the season progresses.
