In a move signaling continuity and trust, the Atlanta Falcons have named Raheem Morris as their head coach, passing over the highly decorated Bill Belichick after a thorough search. Morris, who previously served as Atlanta’s interim coach for the final 11 games of the 2020 season, takes the reins as the official head coach.
The decision comes three years after the Falcons missed the opportunity to appoint Morris as their head coach initially. This time around, the organization has chosen to retain a familiar face, acknowledging Morris’s leadership during the interim period following Dan Quinn’s dismissal.
The 47-year-old Morris assumes the position following an extensive search that included interviews with 14 candidates, with Belichick being the most prominent. Despite Belichick’s illustrious track record, the Falcons opted for Morris’s proven connection with the team.
Earlier on the same day, the Falcons conducted a second interview with Bobby Slowik, the offensive coordinator for the Houston Texans, further emphasizing their commitment to exploring all options before finalizing their coaching decision.
