Nicole Kidman steps into a new Prime Video series, “Expats,” under the direction of Lulu Wang. The narrative revolves around Kidman, Sarayu Blue, and Ji-young Yoo, portraying expatriates residing in Hong Kong, whose lives intertwine amidst tragedy. Premiering on Amazon Prime Video, the six-episode series explores the emotional journey of these three women, notably Kidman’s character, Margaret, whose world is upended when her young son goes missing.
In collaboration with Wang, known for her work on “The Farewell,” the series delves into the complexities of expatriate life, challenging the notion of living in a confined bubble. Filmed on location in Hong Kong, “Expats” marks another instance where Kidman fearlessly embraces emotionally charged roles, adding to her impressive repertoire, which includes acclaimed performances in “The Undoing,” “Big Little Lies,” and her Oscar-winning portrayal of Virginia Woolf in “The Hours.”
