Kanye West, also known as “Ye,” seized the spotlight during Super Bowl LVIII to promote his fashion line, Yeezy, with a half-minute ad that appeared to be shot on his cellphone. The informal commercial depicted West speaking directly into the camera while seemingly riding in a vehicle.
“Hey y’all, this is Ye, and this is my commercial,” he began. “And since we spent all the money on the commercial spot, we actually — we didn’t spend any money on the actual commercial. But the idea is I want you to go to yeezy.com.”
Encouraging viewers to visit the website, he spelled it out verbally and mentioned having some shoes available. However, the commercial didn’t reach all Super Bowl audiences, as it didn’t air in every market. Reports indicate that it was viewed on a Miami affiliate but was absent in Los Angeles, suggesting that West may have targeted specific regions for airing rather than opting for a nationwide broadcast.
By opting for regional ad placement, West likely avoided the hefty $7 million price tag for a national spot, as reported by CBS Sports for 30-second ads during the event. Super Bowl LVIII, broadcasted on CBS and Paramount+, featured a matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
