BOSTON (AP) — Andris Nelsons has officially agreed to a rolling contract, extending his role as the music director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO).
At 45 years old, the talented Latvian conductor has been at the helm of the BSO since the 2014-15 season, initially under a five-year contract. Subsequently, this was succeeded by an eight-year agreement lasting through 2021-22. In October 2020, Nelsons secured a three-year extension, further solidifying his commitment until the culmination of the 2024-25 season.
In addition to his directorial role with the BSO, Nelsons has been bestowed with the title of head of conducting at Tanglewood. Tanglewood serves as the orchestra’s summer home and is a renowned music and educational center.
Since the 2017-18 season, Nelsons has also served as the music director of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. This latest development underscores his enduring commitment to the world of classical music and orchestral excellence.
The Boston Symphony Orchestra expressed their enthusiasm about continuing their collaboration with Andris Nelsons under this flexible and dynamic agreement.
