Demi Lovato, the acclaimed singer, isn’t phased by the negative aspects of social media anymore. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, which coincides with their collaboration with Xeomin, the 31-year-old artist discusses how their relationship with social media has transformed over time. Lovato explains that they no longer seek validation from the internet and have stopped paying attention to negative comments altogether.
“My relationship with social media has evolved over the years from seeking validation online to completely avoiding internet comments. If I happen to come across something negative, it doesn’t affect me like it used to,” Lovato shares. “I’m not sure if it’s due to maturity or my years in the public eye, but I no longer allow it to impact me the way it once did. It no longer holds power over me.”
The singer further elaborates that they are unfazed by what others say about them, which feels liberating. Despite continuing to engage with fans on social media, Lovato emphasizes maintaining a positive atmosphere and refrains from delving deep into the comment section.
Additionally, Lovato expresses empathy towards online critics, recognizing the underlying reasons behind their negativity. “I understand that those who leave mean comments lack awareness or self-love. People who operate from a place of kindness wouldn’t say such things online,” they explain. “Those who truly value themselves wouldn’t focus on others. So, I feel compassion for online haters too.”
In another segment of the interview, Lovato discusses their decision to undergo injectable treatments in their early 30s. They emphasize the importance of making empowering choices that align with one’s identity and enhance self-confidence. Incorporating Xeomin into their beauty routine every three months, Lovato stresses the significance of transparency and destigmatizing procedures like injectables.
“I believe in being open with my fans, and I wanted to share this aspect of my beauty routine. It normalizes the conversation,” Lovato asserts. “It’s about feeling comfortable in your own skin and disregarding negative opinions. Embrace what makes you feel like your best self.”
